Introduction
Wow! You look beautiful.
Hurrah! We won the match.
Alas! He is dead.
Oops! I forgot my wallet.
Oh! I understand now.
What is Interjection?
Interjection एक ऐसा शब्द (Word) या छोटा वाक्यांश (Phrase) होता है जो अचानक उत्पन्न हुई भावना (Sudden Emotion) को व्यक्त करता है। यह किसी व्यक्ति, वस्तु या क्रिया का नाम नहीं बताता बल्कि केवल भाव (Emotion) प्रकट करता है।
Definition of Interjection
English Definition
An Interjection is a word or short expression used to express sudden feelings, emotions or reactions.
Hindi Definition
जो शब्द अचानक उत्पन्न हुई खुशी, दुःख, आश्चर्य, दर्द, प्रशंसा, घृणा, डर, क्रोध या अन्य किसी भावना को व्यक्त करे, उसे Interjection (विस्मयादिबोधक) कहते हैं।

Why do we use Interjection?
Interjection का मुख्य उद्देश्य हमारी भावनाओं को तुरंत और प्रभावशाली तरीके से व्यक्त करना है। बिना Interjection के भाषा सामान्य और सपाट लग सकती है, जबकि Interjection भाषा में जीवंतता, भावनात्मक प्रभाव और स्वाभाविकता जोड़ता है।

| Surprise | Wow! |

Rules of Interjection (Basic to Advanced)
Rule 1 : Interjection Expresses Sudden Emotion
Interjection हमेशा किसी अचानक हुई भावना को व्यक्त करता है। यह खुशी, दुःख, दर्द, आश्चर्य, क्रोध, डर, घृणा या प्रशंसा कुछ भी हो सकती है।
✔ Alas! His grandfather died.
✔ Ouch! My finger is bleeding.
✔ Wow! That's fantastic.
Rule 2 : Interjection is Independent
Interjection किसी भी Sentence के Grammar Structure का आवश्यक भाग नहीं होता। इसे हटाने पर भी वाक्य का मूल अर्थ बना रहता है।
| With Interjection | Without Interjection |
|---|---|
| Wow! You look beautiful. | You look beautiful. |
| Hurrah! We won. | We won. |
| Ouch! My leg hurts. | My leg hurts. |
Rule 3 : Use an Exclamation Mark (!)
अधिकांश Interjections के बाद Exclamation Mark (!) लगाया जाता है क्योंकि वे तीव्र भावना व्यक्त करते हैं।
✔ Hurrah!
✔ Alas!
✔ Ouch!
✔ Hurrah! We won.
Rule 4 : Position of Interjection in a Sentence
Interjection सामान्यतः वाक्य की शुरुआत (Beginning) में आता है, लेकिन आवश्यकता के अनुसार बीच (Middle) या अंत (End) में भी आ सकता है।
Beginning
Middle
End
Rule 5 : One Interjection Can Express Different Emotions
एक ही Interjection अलग-अलग परिस्थितियों में अलग भावना व्यक्त कर सकता है।
| Sentence | Emotion |
|---|---|
| Oh! That's wonderful. | Joy |
| Oh! I forgot my keys. | Regret |
| Oh! You are here. | Surprise |
| Oh! It hurts. | Pain |
Rule 6 : Interjection is Common in Spoken English
Interjections का प्रयोग बोलचाल की अंग्रेज़ी (Spoken English) में अधिक होता है, क्योंकि बातचीत में लोग तुरंत अपनी भावना व्यक्त करते हैं।
Hi!
Wow!
Oops!
Oops! I dropped my phone.
Rule 7 : Formal vs Informal Usage
| Formal English | Informal English |
|---|---|
| Thank you. | Wow! |
| Congratulations. | Bravo! |
| I apologize. | Oops! |
| I regret this. | Oh no! |
Rule 8 : Do Not Overuse Interjections
एक ही पैराग्राफ या वाक्य में बहुत अधिक Interjections का प्रयोग नहीं करना चाहिए। इससे लेखन अस्वाभाविक (Unnatural) लगने लगता है।
✔ Hurrah! We won the match.
Rule 9 : Choose the Correct Interjection
हर भावना के लिए सही Interjection चुनना आवश्यक है।
| Situation | Correct Interjection |
|---|---|
| Winning a match | Hurrah! |
| Death | Alas! |
| Pain | Ouch! |
| Appreciation | Bravo! |
| Bad Smell | Yuck! |

Advanced Rules of Interjection
अब तक आपने Interjection की परिभाषा, प्रकार (Types) और Basic Rules सीख लिए हैं। अब हम Advanced Grammar Rules सीखेंगे, जो स्कूल परीक्षाओं, SSC, Banking, Railway, NDA, CDS तथा अन्य Competitive Exams में उपयोगी होते हैं।
Rule 10 : Context Decides the Meaning
किसी Interjection का अर्थ केवल उसके शब्द से नहीं, बल्कि पूरे वाक्य (Context) से तय होता है।
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Oh! You are here. | Surprise |
| Oh! I forgot my book. | Regret |
| Oh! What a lovely view. | Joy |
| Oh! My head hurts. | Pain |
Rule 11 : Use Comma After an Interjection (Sometimes)
यदि Interjection की भावना बहुत तीव्र नहीं है, तो Exclamation Mark (!) की जगह Comma (,) का भी प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।
Well, let's begin.
Yes, I agree.
Hmm, that's interesting.
✔ Oh! → Strong Emotion
✔ Oh, → Mild Emotion
Rule 12 : Exclamation Mark is Not Always Necessary
हर Interjection के बाद Exclamation Mark लगाना अनिवार्य नहीं है। यदि भावना सामान्य हो तो Comma भी पर्याप्त है।
| Strong Emotion | Normal Emotion |
|---|---|
| Wow! Amazing. | Well, let's go. |
| Help! Fire! | Yes, I understand. |
| Ouch! It hurts. | Hmm, maybe. |
Rule 13 : Interjection Can Stand Alone
कई बार Interjection अपने आप में भी पूरा अर्थ व्यक्त कर देता है। ऐसे में उसके साथ पूरा वाक्य लिखना आवश्यक नहीं होता।
Bravo!
Help!
Ouch!
Fantastic!
Rule 14 : One Emotion, Many Interjections
एक ही भावना को व्यक्त करने के लिए कई अलग-अलग Interjections का प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।
| Emotion | Possible Interjections |
|---|---|
| Joy | Hurrah!, Wow!, Yippee!, Hurray! |
| Pain | Ouch!, Ow!, Ah! |
| Disgust | Yuck!, Eww!, Ugh! |
| Greeting | Hello!, Hi!, Welcome! |

एक ही Interjection अलग-अलग परिस्थितियों में अलग-अलग भाव व्यक्त कर सकता है।
(Realization)
Ah! My back hurts.
(Pain)
Ah! What a pleasant weather.
(Happiness)
Rule 16 : Interjection is Common in Dialogue Writing
Stories, Novels, Drama, Dialogue Writing और Spoken English में Interjection का प्रयोग सबसे अधिक होता है क्योंकि इससे पात्रों की भावनाएँ स्वाभाविक रूप से व्यक्त होती हैं।
Aman : Thank you.
Riya : Bravo! Keep practicing.
Rule 17 : Avoid Repeating Interjections
एक ही Interjection को बार-बार दोहराने से भाषा अस्वाभाविक लगती है।
✔ Wow! This is amazing.
Rule 18 : Choose According to Situation
| Situation | Correct Interjection |
|---|---|
| Winning a race | Hurrah! |

Spoken English में Interjections का प्रयोग स्वाभाविक (Natural) रूप से होता है क्योंकि बातचीत के दौरान लोग तुरंत अपनी भावनाएँ व्यक्त करते हैं। Written English में इनका प्रयोग केवल आवश्यकता होने पर किया जाता है।
| Spoken English | Written English |
|---|---|
| Wow! That's great. | The performance was excellent. |
| Oops! I forgot. | I forgot the document. |
| Yuck! This tastes bad. | The food had an unpleasant taste. |
| Hurrah! We won. | Our team won the match. |
British English vs American English
British English और American English दोनों में अधिकांश Interjections समान हैं, लेकिन कुछ शब्दों के प्रयोग में अंतर दिखाई देता है।
| British English | American English |
|---|---|
| Cheers! | Thanks! |
| Brilliant! | Awesome! |
| Blimey! | Gee! |
| Good Heavens! | Oh My God! |
| Well done! | Great Job! |
Interjections in Daily Life
Mom : Dinner is ready.
Son : Wow! It smells delicious.
At School
Teacher : You scored full marks.
Student : Hurrah! Thank you, sir.
At Hospital
Patient : Ouch! It hurts badly.

| Alas! We won the match. | Hurrah! We won the match. |
| Bravo! My hand hurts. | Ouch! My hand hurts. |
